Advocacy That Speaks Truth to Power

May 28, 2025

Truth and representation are under attack — in newsrooms, in public discourse, and policy. As Black journalists seek to tell the truth about who and where we are as a country, our organization must be a bold, unapologetic thought leader and champion for our members as they tell the story.

As your President, I will:
Strengthen NABJ’s public voice on press freedom, newsroom discrimination, algorithmic bias, and the ongoing threats to Black media.
Show up before the crisis — with rapid response, proactive messaging, and meaningful support for members — mobilizing our allies in journalism, academia, and advocacy to amplify our response.

Leverage my national platform and relationships across the industry — from newsroom leaders and journalism educators to cultural influencers — to ensure our stories, concerns, and calls to action reach decision-makers at every level.

Why now?
In a democracy under strain, silence is complicity.
At a time when press freedom, truth, and equity are under attack, NABJ cannot afford to wait. We must lead boldly, consistently, and with moral clarity.

Now is the time for proactive advocacy, not reactive statements. For presence, not just positioning. As President, I will help ensure NABJ speaks not only with strength, but with purpose — rooted in our values and aligned with the urgency of this moment.

Our Story. Our Moment. Our Future.
